Classic car restoration data
Minature Workshop Manuals. A series of Service Data
Supplements published by the trade magazine Motor Trader, was started
in November 1936 and rapidly became a recognised, authoratitive reference
for professional mechanics. The series set a new standard for precise,
detailed information on maintenance and overhaul. They were compiled
from material supplied by the vehicle manufacturer and, to ensure accuracy,
each was checked and vetted by the service manager of the vehicle maker
concerned. After covering nearly 600 cars, commercial vehicles, agricultural
tractors and components, the series was discontinued in the 1980s and
has been out of print for years. Each supplement consists of from four to eight closely printed and well illustrated A4 pages giving all the essential information needed to service the vehicle including, in most cases, a wiring diagram together with detailed information on the complete overhaul of mechanical components, often with 'exploded' diagrams. They have, with justification, been called 'Miniature Workshop Manuals'. These Data Supplements were published for professional mechanics and were not intended to teach basic DIY maintenance to novices. Professional restorers today are finding them just as valuable in the repair and restoration of classic cars as did mechanics when those cars were current. They are full of fact-packed invaluable data to restore the majority of classic cars and keep them in top-line condition. Please note that as these are booklets rather than books, and to keep the price inexpensive, they are not bound in soft covers with a full colour cover as are our normal reprint books. They are staple-bound with a plain single-colour cover and back sheet. The price for all of them is the same, £5.49 POST FREE TO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. We do not charge extra for Paypal, and no other charges will be aded on checkout. £5.49 is all you pay. Our reprints are not just plain photocopies. We do not sell 'reproduction automobilia'. All our reprints are scanned in, and creases, oily fingermarks and other blemishes removed before being laser printed to give a reproduction as near as possible to the original when new. We prefer payment by PayPal but will also accept UK

| Return to start of Classic Cars 1930s - 1945 | ||
| Return to top of page | ||
The following section cover cars from 1946
onwards. It is divided into two parts. |
||
The booklets in Part 1, Classic Cars 1946
to 1972, have much the same format as the pre-war booklets. and
are the same price, £5.49 post free to anywhere in the world.
|
||
However, starting in 1973 Motor Trader changed
the format, page size and style of its supplements several times. These
later booklets are listed in Part 2 Classic Cars 1973
onwards. . |
||
More of the information in these later supplements
was in tabular form. There were fewer illustrations, in most cases the
lubrication diagram was dropped (presumably because of the wider introduction
of lubrication-free components), and in a few of the later supplements
there was no wiring diagram. However, they still contain much invaluable
information for the present-day owner and restorer. The series was finally
discontinued in 1987. |
||
We have remastered these later supplements to A4
size, but the number of pages is often fewer. This and the reduced
number of illustrations is reflected in the reduced price of £4.49
post free. If the post-war car from the 1970s and 1980s you are
looking for isn't in Part 1, try Part 2. |
